SVHS has many different students who enjoy many different hobbies, hobbies like fantasy football.
Fantasy Football gets students together to come up with strategies to draft the best fantasy football team possible. The reason that these students take the draft so seriously is because they have a lot on the line. A few of the fantasy leagues in SVHS have punishment or rewards for their fantasy leagues.
The loser of Cooper Lawson’s fantasy football league will get a spray tan and have to leave it on until it fades away. This punishment makes their fantasy league very competitive and enjoyable for all the members in the league except losers.
Members of Simon Gaskell’s fantasy football league each put in ten dollars. The winner of the league gets the $100 dollars in winnings.
Fantasy football has also helped the NFL gain higher viewership because traditionally fans just focussed on their favorite team(s), but fantasy franchise owners watch many teams to see how the players on their fantasy team are doing. Cooper Lawson said, “Fantasy football makes it more enjoyable to watch because I am more invested in it.” Lawson is not alone. FSGA research shows that 64% of fantasy sports players are watching more live sports because of their involvement with fantasy.
Fantasy football is building friendships and increasing fan understanding of football. Students are having a great time competing with their friends and feeling like Jerry Jones once a week.
