STATE OF MIND: Sean Stout and Benson Orydna take in the action on the 18th hole of Powerhorn golf course in Sheridan at the state tournament. The Braves would go on to finish 6th of 12 4A teams. “I played pretty consistently and shot 82, 83,” said Ordyna.

Golf team head coach Kelly Fullmer and assistant coach Shawn Johnson took their team to Sheridan on Sept 15-16 to finish up their season at Powderhorn Golf Club.

LEAN BACK: Junior Jordyn Horsley urges her birdie putt in on the 18th hole in Sheridan at the state golf tournament. She barely missed the putt and tapped in for par. “I played the last four holes one-over-par and finished strong,” said Horsley.

Both the boys and girls teams qualified for the state tournament by finishing 3rd at the 4A West Conference State Qualifier held in SV on September 8-9. At the qualifier, PJ Horsley, Aiden DeCora, Jordyn Horsley and Sheridan Coles claimed all-conference honors. Jordyn would go on to earn all-state honors a week later in Sheridan.

The golf team started playing three weeks before school started, a decision made a few years ago by WHSAA to try and miss bad weather latter in September. The golf season ran 6 weeks full of six, two-day tournaments and three one-day JV tournaments. Twenty-eight golfers played on the team, 21 boys and 9 girls.

Five seniors teed it up for the last time for the Braves, Sheridan Coles, Bailey Erickson, PJ Horsley, Benson Ordyna, and Brigham Ordyna. “Our seniors really set the tone for the rest of the team. We will miss them and their leadership,” said Fullmer.

Of twelve 4A teams, all from schools larger in numbers than SVHS, the Braves and Lady Braves finished 6th at state in Sheridan.
