ALL CLASS: Mrs. Frazier teaches an art class. Frazier came here this year from the middle school. Frazier also teacher photograpy.

As some of you may know, art teacher Mrs. Dockstader retired last May after many years of teaching, and Mrs. Frazier, who taught at the middle school for the last several years, has taken over the position.

Frazier teaches Art I and Art II and also photography. While her art classes are mainly for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, the photography course is just for juniors and seniors.

Coming to high school from the middle school can take some getting used to, but Frazier said, “The transition has been totally fine. When you surround yourself with good people it makes life easier.”

Although she misses the staff and students she left behind at the middle school, she is enjoying the challenge of starting at the high school. “As a teacher you are always revamping your curriculum to be more engaging, motivating, and the biggest learning impact for the time it takes,” said Frazier.

When her students put down their pens and brushes, some Frazier’s students pick up cameras. “Photography is just another line or form of art and allows people the ability to problem solve, innovate, creatively think, and work with self expression,” said Frazier.

When asked if teaching here feels different to teaching 7th and 8th grades, Frazier said, “Yes, and no.” One of the differences comes from the way high schoolers prioritize their cell phones. “High schoolers clean up early so they can check their phones and fail to prioritize their work time and fall behind, where as middle schoolers need to be constantly reminded to not forget to clean up their mess before they move on to another class or activity.”

Frazier feels like she came into an excellent art program and tradition thanks to the efforts of Mr. Guild and Dockstader. “It has been great continuing to work with the students, the program, and the faculty at the high school,” said Frazier.

Frazier particularly enjoys students with a curious attitude and notes that when it comes to learning and being successful in school, attitude is everything. Frazier noted that middle schoolers are a little more enthusiastic and eager to learn while high school students can accomplish more. “They just need more encouraging and don’t want to struggle through the hard things to see the growth.”

Frazier is not the only one from her family at the school as she works here with her husband Assistant Principal Josh Frazier and daughter junior Shaylah. Frazier loves being “a part of their lives on a more continual basis” and think they like it too, “whether they admit it or not.”

For many years Mrs. Frazier has done what she loves: teaching and helping students while having fun doing so. She definitely loves her job and takes the time to help whoever needs it.
