BATTLE FORMATION: Sophomore football players prepare for a kickoff against Cokeville. The Braves would go on to defeat their southern neighbors.

Star Valley High School football has amassed a pretty impressive record and reputation over the years. Our team has won State sixteen times, and hopefully winning for the 17th time at the 2023 State competition. Before they were playing under the lights, stacking state championships, and beating long-time rivals like the Cody Broncs, the current varsity Braves were underclassmen, playing at the JV or sophomore level.

Based on the season the current sophomores just completed, SVHS football has a bright future. The sophomore team went undefeated after playing a total of eight games and never losing.

Many schools have a tough time fielding players for a varsity team, let alone a JV and sophomore team. The same cannot be said for SVHS who had a surprising surplus of passionate sophomore players. The coaches felt that a sophomore team would be very successful and beneficial to establish, and they couldn’t have been more correct. This year’s sophomore team surpassed expectations and represented their school with respect and distinction

Using only three words, this is how these players described their season:

William Walker: “Fun, challenging, and exciting”

Rhen England: “I don’t know”

Austin Miner: “It was good”

Nor surprisingly, when asked to elaborate on their terse answers, each boy declined, but what they lack in elocution, they more than made up for with skill and toughness on the field.
