The Braves faced several familiar opponents during regionals last Thursday through Saturday, March 6-8.
The boys started strong with a decisive win against the Green River Wolves in the first round. Will Linford reflected on the matchup, saying, “We had a height advantage over Green River, so it was a great opportunity to showcase my talent since we were able to get the ball inside a lot.”
Unfortunately, they fell in overtime to Kelly Walsh, losing on a last-second shot. Dylan Shumway commented on the game, saying, “It was a close game. They made some really tough shots down the stretch, and we just weren’t hitting ours.”
The team secured their spot in the state tournament with a hard-fought victory over Rock Springs. Shumway shared his thoughts on the intense matchup. He said, “Elimination games at a regional tournament are always exciting. Our game against Rock Springs on Saturday was an emotional battle in an intense atmosphere between two very good teams. I was impressed with the toughness and composure our players showed. It was a great preview of what’s to come at the state tournament.”
After falling to Evanston in the third-place game, Zach Thompson said, “Dayton hit some tough shots, nearly sending it into overtime.”
The Braves now set their sights on the state tournament, where they will face top-seeded Sheridan on Thursday, 3-13.
