Star Valley’s boys basketball team delivered another statement win against their biggest rivals, the Jackson Hole Broncs, on Friday night, January 30. The Braves came out on top with a commanding 68–32 victory, continuing their dominance in one of the most intense rivalries in Wyoming high school sports.
The night held special meaning for Jackson Hole, as it was senior night for the Broncs’ band. Before the game began, around ten band seniors were recognized for their dedication and years of support, adding a celebratory tone to the evening. Despite the excitement in the gym, Star Valley wasted no time taking control of the game, using strong defense and consistent scoring to pull away early.
Star Valley’s student section also made an impact, traveling well for the rivalry matchup. With a Hollywood-themed section, students dressed in fancy outfits and glamorous attire to show their support for the Braves. Their energy helped create a lively atmosphere as Star Valley maintained their lead throughout the game.
Senior Bria Jack described the intensity of the rivalry and the excitement from the student section. “The atmosphere was super hype and everyone was just really excited because it’s always fun to cheer when you’re playing your rival,” Jack said. “It was pretty similar to the games that I’ve gone to in the past, except the Jackson student section kind of just disappeared as the game went on once they realized they weren’t going to win.”
The Jackson fans that did stay until the end tried to get into their opponents’ head, but it obviously didn’t affect the visiting Braves too much.
In fact, the SV faithful set the tone before the game even began with an “I believe that we will win” chant while Jackson announced their starting lineup. “I felt kind of bad because it wouldn’t have been very fun to be Jackson during that game, but Star Valley partied for real,” said Jack.
With another decisive win over Jackson Hole, the Braves once again proved why this rivalry remains one of the most anticipated—and successful—matchups for Star Valley.
