The counseling office is often the first stop for students with questions, concerns, attendance issues, and those who need to see a friendly face. The secretaries make that possible. Gina Fullmer and Heather Warren both grew up in Star Valley, Wyoming, giving them a strong connection to the community they interact with.
They shared that one of their favorite parts of working at SVHS is interacting with students every day and seeing the “cute kids” come through the office. The office is never short on laughter, especially when Gina jokingly described her passion for fonts, dramatically saying, “It is just terrible” while exaggerating her deep hatred for the Brush Script font, a comment that had the entire office laughing.
The counselors at SVHS, Reed Lesuma, Jeff Johnson, and Ben Hale, each bring their own unique background and personality to the team. Lesuma was raised in Laie, Hawaii, and mentioned that “summer break off is another great perk of working here,” something many students would agree with.
Ben Hale shared a fun personal detail about his love for night golfing, while Jeff Johnson talked about his time working in Idaho, where he was a part of a teacher band. Together, the counselors work closely with students to support their academic paths, personal goals, and well-being.
Also working closely with the counseling office is school resource officer Correy Bassett, who also grew up in Star Valley. Bassett shared a memorable and humorous story about ripping his pants on just the second day of owning them while responding to a call. When asked about dealing with difficult students, he smiled and said, “I actually don’t work with that many bad kids,” clearly appreciative of the school environment.
Whether keeping the school safe or sharing a laugh, the counseling office staff plays an important role in making SVHS a welcoming place for everyone.
