As the holiday season approaches, Christmas decorations begin to appear, festive music fills the halls, and students start talking about their favorite holiday traditions. One tradition many students look forward to every year is watching Christmas movies with friends and family.
What is your favorite Christmas movie and why?
Harper Newell said his favorite Christmas movie is The Grinch. “It’s a pretty funny movie and an OG Christmas movie,” Newell said. The movie has been a holiday staple for years, and many students agree that its humor and message about the true meaning of Christmas make it a classic. The Grinch continues to be popular because it appeals to both kids and adults alike. While some students prefer traditional Christmas movies, others enjoy films that take a different approach to the holiday. Drezden Massey shared that his favorite Christmas movie is Gremlins. “Definitely Gremlins because that was one of the first Christmas movies my uncle showed me,” Massey explained. The movie combines comedy, action, and a bit of chaos, making it memorable and unique. For Massey, the film also brings back special memories of spending time with family during the holidays.Axel Carlston said his favorite Christmas movie is Elf. “Elf is pretty cool because I like Will Ferrell and it’s pretty funny,” Carlston said. Elf has become one of the most popular modern Christmas movies thanks to its humor and Ferrell’s energetic performance. Many students enjoy the movie for its lighthearted tone and memorable scenes.
Even though each student chose a different movie, all three shared a common reason for their picks: the memories and enjoyment that come with watching them during the holiday season. Whether it’s laughing at a classic, revisiting a movie tied to family memories, or enjoying a comedy with friends, Christmas movies continue to play an important role in how students at Star Valley High celebrate the holidays.
As Christmas gets closer, students will likely continue debating their favorite films, proving that no matter the choice, holiday movies remain a big part of spreading cheer and bringing people together.
