Basketball season is officially here, and the Lady Braves are gearing up for their opening weekend in Evanston, starting December 11th. With a senior-heavy roster and high expectations, the team is ready to take on Rock Springs, Green River, and Cheyenne East in what will be an early test of skill and teamwork.
This year’s varsity lineup includes six seniors: Ambrey Nelson, Ari Foster, Camryn Mackey, Ruby Hill, Kiera Allred, and Livy Kleeman. Three of those seniors are return starters, bringing experience to the court. The team also welcomed one move-in athlete, Ari Foster, joining the Lady Braves’ 4A program from Dubois, Wy. “Ari has quickly become an integral part of this season’s dynamics,” said Coach Erickson.
For many of the seniors, the tournament marks the beginning of their final run in a Lady Braves jersey. Senior Livy Kleeman reflected on what this last season means to her, sharing, “I am most excited to play with my girls one last time. I am also super excited to be able to play with my cousin, Hudsyn. I’ve always wanted to and now I get the opportunity, and I’m so excited!” Senior point guard, Ambrey Nelson said, “My best memory of basketball is probably any bus trip, just chatting with the coaches and having a fun time.
Head Coach Kade Erickson is entering the tournament with a confident mindset. He explained his expectations heading into the first weekend of play, “…So I’m excited about those first three games and hopefully we will come back from that weekend with what we need to work on. I’m sure it’ll show our weaknesses and then we can work on them next week and just continue to get better with them as we move into conference play.” His approach is radiating confidence in his players and a commitment to improve, from day one.
Star Valley fans will get their first full look at this year’s roster starting Friday. As one season begins, one thing is certain: these seniors are ready to leave their mark, one final time.
