When most teens were settling into the rhythm of a new school year, Wyoming’s own Katelynn Gaughan was stepping onto a national stage in Florida, representing her home state in a major teen beauty pageant. From the confidence it takes to compete to the pride of carrying the Wyoming name, Katelynn’s journey brought both excitement and growth.
Traveling from wide-open Wyoming to the bright lights and bustling energy of a national competition was no small shift. Yet Katelynn embraced the opportunity with grace and determination—qualities she’s known for in her community. Reflecting on her time on stage, she shared that she “was very happy with how I performed! I felt like each area of competition (Interview, Personal Introduction, and Formal Wear) went how I wanted them to.”
Throughout the pageant, Katelynn connected with contestants from across the country, participated in interviews, rehearsals, and stage events, and gained experience that will likely stay with her long after the final awards were given. She said her favorite part was the camaraderie that grew during preparation, explaining, “My favorite part was all of the rehearsals with the other girls competing; everyone there is so sweet, and the rehearsals are very fun with all of the different themes that are set.”
But perhaps the most meaningful element of all was the chance to represent Wyoming—a state she speaks of with deep pride. Wearing her state’s name during the competition was an emotional experience. “Being able to wear Wyoming across my chest on a national level is truly a magical experience!” she said. “I still haven’t been able to process how amazing of an opportunity that is, and I will forever hold that in my heart.”
As she returns home, Katelynn carries not just memories but the confidence that comes from challenging herself on a national level. Her journey reflects the spirit of Wyoming itself: bold, grounded, and full of heart.
