With the start of the winter season just days away, the boys’ basketball team is stepping into the year with renewed confidence, sharper skills, and a clear vision for success. After months of offseason preparation, players say they feel prepared to take on their opponents.
Head coach Matt Shumway says the team’s chemistry will be one of their biggest strengths this upcoming season. “These guys get along really well and enjoy playing together”, he said. “We should have a very good shooting team this year with the potential to score a lot of points.” The return of a strong core group of players will contribute to a more complete and dynamic roster for the season.
Tryouts have been intense, with a heavy focus on defensive discipline and quicker offensive transitions. Senior leaders have stepped into larger roles, encouraging younger players and helping set the tone during drills. “Our best strength is going to be getting up and down the floor,” said senior Cooper Lancaster. “We aren’t very big so we will need to hit our shots and play good defense.”
Fans can expect a fast-paced, competitive team when the season tips off in two weeks. With a challenging schedule ahead, the team says they are ready to embrace every test. “The most exciting thing for me this season is the potential this group has,” added coach Shumway. “They have the ability to play with anyone we go against and we are excited to see what they can do.”
As anticipation builds throughout the school and community, the team hopes their hard work will translate into a memorable, and potentially breakout, season.
