This is a tier list of some of the movies off of IMDb’s top 250 movies of all time. All of these movies are very good; however the ones in the higher tiers are the best of the best. The ones in the lower tiers are still very good they just do not compare to the best movies of all time.
S+
Fight Club, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
All of these movies are 10/10 movies that I could never stop watching. This tier also has legendary directors including Christopher Nolan (Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight) and Peter Jackson (LOTR Trilogy) each with three movies.
S
Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Gladiator, Star Wars
All of these movies are classic and deserve to be in S tier. They did not make S+ because they are not quite on the same level as the movies above; however, these movies are still legendary. This tier also includes some great directors including Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction), George Lucas (Star Wars), and Ridley Scott (Gladiator).
A+
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, The Godfather, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers Endgame, and Logan
These movies are some of the best, just a little bit worse than the higher tiers. Return of the Jedi is a great movie but I cannot put it higher if the other two Star Wars movie are better. The Godfather might be a bit low, but I do not think it as good as everyone thinks. Infinity War and Endgame are not as good by themselves but they are the build up of ten years worth of movies and they end it perfectly. Finally, Logan is arguably the best Marvel movie.
A
Back to the Future, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Prestige, Batman Begins, Prisoners, and Jurassic Park
This tier once again has some classics in Back to the Future and Jurassic Park. It has more of Christopher Nolan in Batman Begins and The Prestige, which are probably his most underrated movies. Prisoners is a great movie for when you want to watch something disturbing and creepy. Last, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is arguably the best animated movie ever.
B+
Django Unchained, The Dark Knight Rises, A Beautiful Mind, and Rocky
These movie are in the middle of the best movies of all time. They are all great but could be better. First, The Dark Knight Rises is a little bit messy when compared to the The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. Django Unchained is great, but out of Tarantino’s movies on this list Pulp Fiction is clearly better. A Beautiful Mind and Rocky are very good just not as memorable as the movies on the higher tiers.
B
WALL-E, Toy Story, The Lion King, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Three of these movies are some of the classic Disney and Pixar movies and it is very difficult to have kids movies be as good as the ones above; however, regarding animated movies this is a very high tier for them as they are some of the best. Harry Potter is here because it cannot go above some of the other series ending movies such as Return of the King, Return of the Jedi, or Avengers Endgame because it simply does not wrap up the series as well.
C
Monsters Inc. and 12 Angry Men
Monsters Inc. is one of the best Pixar movies but I cannot put it as high as Toy Story or WALL-E because it is not as good. Lots of people think 12 Angry Men should be at the top; however, when I watched it, I felt it was too simple and very boring.
D
Inside Out, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo
These animated movies are not as good as the ones above so I must put them here. Toy Story 1 is better than 2. Inside Out is pretty overrated and compared to the rest of the animated movies it is not very good. Finding Nemo, same thing, I cannot put it higher because most of the other animated movies are better.
F
Coco
Coco is not even close to being the best movie of all time, so I do not know why it was on this list. All of the other animated movies clear Coco.
