Speech & Debate seniors are recognized during Senior Night at Star Valley High School. Seniors were honored on stage on Thursday, January 23, as teammates, coaches, and family members applauded their dedication to the program. “Speech and Debate has given me so much confidence and so many memories, being recognized for something that’s been such a big part of my high school experience meant a lot.”

Snowcoming features a week full of dress-up themes and fun after-school events. The student council put together fun activities for students to get involved and have fun. Science teacher Mr. Baker says, “We are just trying to have fun so the members of the student council are working hard preparing fun things for everybody to do.”
Snowcoming To Heat Up Winter at SVHS
SV All State members gather before the concert to take a picture in their school choir robes. Prior to this, the choir rehearsed for 16 hours over two days in Cody for the concert. Freshman Cayson Haderlie commented, “I found that practices and rehearsals were fun and filled with lots of challenges.”

The speech and debate team poses together during the Riverton tournament. Students competed in speech and debate events from January 16–18, gaining experience and supporting teammates throughout the competition. “Every tournament pushes you to grow,” said Cooper Daniels. “You walk away with a better understanding of what works and how to improve.”

Last year’s All-State singers and musicians show the incredible energy and focus resulting from months of hard work that finally showed up on the biggest stage. Today, that same drive continues to push Star Valley’s musicians to reach higher notes and tougher goals. “You have to put in a lot of work and be really prepared," said Cloe Jack.

School Resource Officer Corey Bassett, a Star Valley native and former Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy, now serves schools across the district as a familiar, trusted presence, reminding students that “my door is always open—that they can come talk to me, joke with me, or just stop by.”

After the State Spirit Sendoff assembly, both dancers and cheerleaders get together to take a picture with SVHS administration before the state competition. The squads performed their state routines for the student body in the gymnasium. Sophomore Brave Cadette Mady Mosgeller said, "The biggest challenge at the state was girls being in their own heads and worrying about the dance. We had to come together and trust ourselves!"

The Braves JV squad is coming off a strong win over Evanston’s JV, continuing their momentum as the season progresses. Junior CJ Neuenschwander said, “This team is so fun, and we love to compete. When we play the right way and have fun, nobody can stop us.”

But if that’s not really what they want about Star Valley, then I’d say the weather. Summer isn’t too hot, which is perfect for me, and it snows a lot too.

Sunlight glints off a newly opened lift at Grand Targhee Resort as fresh snow blankets the slopes, inviting winter adventurers to explore the terrain. After recent storms, the Sacajawea and Colter lifts are turning once–quiet runs into open access across Peaked Mountain. “There’s nothing better than that first ride up with perfect snow beneath you and blue sky ahead,” said senior Kellan Stout.
