On October 28th, students packed into the auditorium to hear motivational speaker Kacey McCallister, whose story of perseverance and positivity inspired everyone to see challenges as opportunities instead of obstacles.
McCallister, who lost both of his legs at the age of six after being hit by a truck, has spent his life proving that setbacks don’t define success. As an athlete and motivational speaker, he travels across the country encouraging others to embrace hardships and turn them into sources of strength. His message to students was clear — major setbacks don’t mean the end; they’re just the beginning of something stronger.
Sophomore Evalyn Andrus said, “I really enjoyed how he turned his hardships and disability into a powerful and unique lifestyle, and now uses it to influence others to have endurance and work through it.”
During the assembly, McCallister combined humor, honesty, and heart. He spoke openly about his journey and how he learned to adapt, compete, and thrive despite his physical challenges. Students laughed at his jokes and listened closely as he shared his perspective on facing adversity.

Many students left the assembly feeling motivated and inspired by McCallister’s words.
Erika Allred added, “I learned that we should look for hard things that we can try to better ourselves.”
Alyssa Spencer shared, “Just because bad things happen to us, that shouldn’t keep us from trying and pursuing our dreams and goals. And we shouldn’t use it as an excuse to hold us back.”
Whether you’re a wrestler, cross-country runner, or any kind of athlete, McCallister’s story proves that setbacks don’t define us—how we respond does. His visit served as a powerful reminder that with courage and perseverance, we can all overcome the impossible.
