The auditorium was packed, the energy was electric, and the crowd was loud. It could only mean one thing: the SVHS Back-to-School Assembly was in full swing. During the first week of school, Braves from every grade came together to celebrate the start of a new year.
From dazzling dance team performances to booming class chants and heartfelt speeches from student council leaders, this year’s assembly wasn’t just about welcoming students back—it was about uniting them.
“I’m really excited for this year! I just want to make the most of it and have no regrets. All gas, no brakes!” said Janey Young, SVHS Student Body President. “Student council is really trying to change the vibe at SVHS. We want more school spirit, more involvement, and to bring back some of the awesome traditions we already have.”
Young’s message to the student body was clear: be all in. That statement echoed throughout the assembly and set the tone for the year. “At the end of the day, in 10 years we’re not going to remember being awkward or nervous; we’re just going to remember the fun memories and the people we shared them with,” she added.
Senior Class President Harper Sessions also emphasized the importance of tradition and legacy. “As the senior class president, I’m really excited about this school year because it’s our last one together as a class, which makes it feel very special,” Sessions said. “We’ve been focusing on tradition this year, and as homecoming gets closer, we’ve tried to incorporate the theme ‘Tradition Never Graduates.’”
Sessions explained that the council has been planning class competitions and other inclusive events to boost participation and school spirit. “Overall, we’re focused on building school spirit and making this a year people will look back on and remember.”
The assembly also featured a high-energy performance by the Brave Cadettes dance team. “Performing in front of the school is so, so, so much fun!” said Aliya Peavler, head captain of the team. “It’s an adrenaline rush because you’re putting yourself out there to entertain and impress the people you see every day.”
Despite limited time to prepare, the team delivered a strong performance. “Each performance takes 110% effort, 24/7, from each dancer at practice and at home,” Peavler added. “We’ve been working extremely hard for upcoming performances like the first home football game and state later this year.”
As students filed out of the auditorium, the message was clear: school spirit isn’t just for assemblies. With dedicated council members, talented cheer and dance performers, and a student body ready to be “all in,” this year at SVHS is shaping up to be one to remember.
