The high school girls’ soccer season may not have ended how the girls hoped, but the team learned many valuable lessons throughout the season. Cara Andrews shares, “Obviously this isn’t the season anybody wants, but it taught me so many lessons and made us so much closer as a team, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything
There is always a team in every sport that falls below the rest of the opposing teams; unfortunately, the varsity girls carried that burden this season, yet it failed to destroy their spirits.
Every loss and defeat the team endured was only another opportunity for growth and learning. By the end of the season, this rang true for every girl on the team as they noticed their development in skill and understanding of the game. More importantly, the team grew closer and stronger together and experienced a bond of care and love that no one could understand unless they were in the team’s shoes.
Harper Sessions explains, “We have never been more united, and I don’t think we could have made it through this season without the love and support from each other as a family.” Before the start of every game, the team huddled together and repeated the words “forget about me, I love you, family” to remind themselves that no matter the outcome of the game, they would always play for each other. Sessions also shares, “Losing is tough, but we were always there for each other to build each other up and continue playing hard.”
Overall, each girl on the team finished the season with new friendships and stronger relationships because they supported and lifted each other up in the midst of defeat. “In the end, it is not going to be the games we remember,” said Kellsie Dunne, “but the bonds that were formed.”
