Any Google search on breakfast and health will result in the follwing.
Almost all Americans love breakfast, so 80% of US adults eat breakfast daily. But it’s no secret that the average American Breakfast is not healthy, often being the most unhealthy meal of the day.
Much of the Traditional American Breakfast food has been described as “disguised desserts” that are jam-packed with sugar. Studies show that even though many of these foods are nutrient-deficient, many people still think these breakfast staples are well-suited for the meal. Foods overflowing with sugar, like artificial/natural fruit juice, cold cereal, and processed breads, are some of the most common breakfast items. Even many of those ready-to-eat cereals that some people considered “healthy” have been disqualified from the FDA’s definition of a healthy cereal.
And it’s not just the sugary, refined grain-based foods. Processed meats like bacon have also been found to be linked to increased risk of strokes, colon cancer, and heart disease, as they are also high in saturated fat, sodium, and cholesterol.
You are not limited to what you eat in the morning. The best choices to fill you up and boost your overall health are high in fiber, protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Foods like eggs, yogurt, fruit, berries, vegetables, oatmeal, whole-grain bread, nuts, seeds, coffee, tea, shakes, smoothies, and cottage cheese are some items you should look for in a breakfast.
