BLACKFOOT, Idaho — Six members of the local color guard team traveled to Blackfoot to compete in the Idaho Indoor Circuit competition based in Boise, earning second place in their division.
Captain Kassy Taylor, Savanna Sloan, Kayliann Standley, Brooklyn Bach, Evayn Andrus and Rachel Thygerson competed against three other teams in their division, delivering what observers called a stellar performance.
The competition featured 10 color guard units across two divisions and two indoor winter drumlines.
The team practiced for weeks before and after school, performing choreography and drill designed by Taylor. For most team members, this was their first time participating in this competition.
“We are very proud of these girls taking on this additional challenge in their busy lives and performing at a high level,” said Kurt Sand, the color guard adviser. “They especially enjoyed watching the other color guard performances and learned many things to help our performances be stronger.”
Team member Rachel Thygerson described the experience positively: “It was super cool! We were one of the smaller guards there, but everyone was so supportive. It’s definitely a cool experience to be in the same room as so many people who share your passion.”

It was amazing to see all of the talent and hard work that the other guards put in to make such amazing shows happen. Since our captain Kassy [Taylor] choreographed our show, it was really interesting to see the feedback the judges gave us. All of us girls worked so hard to make our show happen and I'm so grateful that we got the opportunity to compete,"said Savanna Sloan.](https://mountainstar.lcsd2.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_1047-900x1200.jpeg)
