The Art Club offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of creative activities without any prerequisites. Members can contribute to meaningful art projects for the community and, if they choose to join the National Art Honor Society, may even earn college credits. This option requires a more advanced level of involvement, along with a $5 fee and a permission slip.
Students can join numerous community-based art projects led by Denise Frazier and Adam Guild, held in the art room after school (3:40 PM–5:00 PM) or during lunch—both sessions take place on Wednesdays.
Art Club activities include, but are not limited to: decorating puzzle pieces for a mural in the Special Education hallway, where students are free to paint or draw whatever they choose; painting murals for the school or even for the broader community upon request; and, during homecoming season, helping to design and decorate the Art Club float for the parade. Essentially, if it’s art-related and you’re passionate about it, there’s a place for you in Art Club.
Art Club projects also extend beyond the school campus. For instance, students have painted murals for local food pantries, and Thayne Elementary School once requested that the club recreate kindergarten students’ monster drawings as clay sculptures. Mr. Guild said, “One of the cool thing about art club is that you can use art to do service, an example of that would be when we turned the elementary school kids monster drawing into clay monsters for them. it was pretty awesome opportunity.”

In addition to community projects, the Art Club also takes on in-school initiatives, such as painting murals on the school walls, decorating tables for the lost and found, and completing mural requests from administration. These are just a few examples of past projects completed by the club.
Opportunities in Art Club are plentiful and open to anyone interested. It’s a space where students can work on any art-related project they’re passionate about. Whether you’re looking to create for fun, self-expression, or to give back to the community, Art Club is a great place to get involved.
