There is the common saying of “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. Regardless, there are many who are guilty of missing meals because of time. While eating a well balanced three consecutive meals does statistically take up to an hour and a half on average out of a day. A poor diet can keep a learning mind and growing body, to become stunted.
Often, advice from adults is vague. “Find a buffet!” Officer Bassett exclaimed, “Eat your Wheaties!” Mrs. Warren added.
Our body takes a large chunk of its energy from food and the nutrients within them. Without these nutrients our body’s functions become weak and difficult to maintain: “Eating anything is better than eating nothing” Nurse Erin includes. To add, according to Stanford Medicines Children’s Health only seven out of ten children are getting the sleep they need, and reasonably there are many things that could counteract getting to sleep at a good time and getting a full eight hours. A poor diet layered on top of a poor sleep schedule may result in very significant health issues. Many times these issues become habits that can leave long lasting effects, such as chronic fatigue -which can lead to mental health problems such as depression-, weakened hair and nails, damage to organs, anemia, heart problems, autoimmune diseases, and stunted growth.
So breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, it gives us energy for the rest of twenty-four-hour period, where as missing it can cause a sense of apathy and tiredness till the next available time to get that sustenance and energy that you would get and your body would need from food. Science teacher Mr. Hepworth said, “Breakfast is the best, like a hardy breakfasts, like sausage, bacon, eggs, cheese, and hash browns”.
Despite as insignificant as missing a meal seems when you don’t have time in the morning to get something for breakfast or skip lunch cause the idea did not entertain you or to sleep through dinner without the thought about that once or twice becoming an annual altercation it is something incredibly important to keeping health up, and to maintaining energy.
So next time the thought of skipping breakfast becomes an epiphany in the morning, keep in mind the issues that could sprout, grab something if you can, pick something up along the way. Because breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day.
