The Marching Braves find themselves back in a fundraising mode because they have the opportunity this summer to again march in the Disneyland Parade. This will be their third time attending the parade and marching in it.
The band is currently selling raffle tickets to fund this trip in which are available until February 28. They have gathered $2000 dollars for the upcoming Amazon gift card raffle. Three names will be drawn during the boys varsity basketball home game on the evening of the 28th. Winners need not be present to win.
All the money raised goes to good use. Senior Ashlyn Kallgren said, “Most of the time our fundraiser money goes towards instrument repair or instrument upkeep. Maintaining instruments can be super expensive, this year however part of our fundraiser money is going toward the students for our California trip this summer.”
Band director Mr. Sand puts the raffle together and encourages the kids to sell as many tickets as they can. He said, “This trip will be packed with many great experiences and chances to make lifelong memories.”
This opportunity means a lot to the members of the band; not only do they get the opportunity to march at Disney, but for most of them it’s about the chance to march one more time. Senior Band member Brock Haderlie said, “The band to me is a family is like no other! And the fact that we get to play as the Marching Braves one last time before we seniors go out into the world is amazing. I’m so proud of this band and the effort that they have made this year. Go Braves!”
As much work as planning for Disney is, getting to the parade is even harder. The band had to be approved to march in Disneyland by sending a video of them marching and playing. The people at Disney must have liked what they saw and heard.
As well as marching down Main Street USA, the band will get to spend some time with the Disney composers and play some iconic Disney tunes with them. It’s an amazing opportunity. This years Disney trip includes seniors to next year’s freshman, almost 70 kids in all.
