On Monday, January 6th, indoor track team members had their first practice of the season. With excitement filling the hallways, both coaches and athletes are pumped for the new season.
Track is always one of the most popular, and crowded, sport or activity. “We are just getting started and are getting to know our athletes. We have a great senior class and will be leaning heavily on their leadership. We have just over 170 kids participating this year and are looking forward to building our fitness and athleticism as we prepare for the state indoor meet and the outdoor season,” said head coach Ty Draney.
For some of the athletes, indoor track is more than just winning races and competitions, it is about friendship and bonds. “I like indoor for the self validation. I feel better about myself and constantly push myself. I am hoping to improve on my endurance and my take off for jumps,” said Senior Teagan Barclay.
Another reason that athletes enjoy doing indoor track is because they are able to go on trips, and they like the bus rides. Senior Noah Battleson said, “I like indoor track for the hotel trips and my mom pays for my food.”
Coming back for the fourth year of his indoor season, Paxton Beebe said he has been practicing so that he can try and be faster and be better on his jumps. “I hope that I can make it to state, and that I can perform the best that I have out of all my other years.”
Indoor athletes are literally filling the hallways since that is where most of them practice after school. Hopefully this practice will lead to victories down the road.
