As the cold winter months roll in, there is at least one thing to look forward to: Braves basketball. The team got their season off to a fast and challenging, playing big schools with big teams. Nonetheless, the players are putting up an amazing fight, working har, and getter better by the game.
Junior Cooper Lancaster has stood out since his freshmen year as a player and teammate, as much of an asset off the court as he is on. “He is always sure to prepare for his next opponent by watching videos and reflecting on plays,” said teammate of his junior Dylan Shumway.
In addition to basketball, Lancaster has a background in football, suffering an injury not long before the start of basketball season. He broke his collarbone in the first playoff game before the Braves made their way to state, forcing him to help the Braves take their 3rd state title from the sideline. Since that time he has worked very hard to make speedy recovery to get on the court for the first time this season against Utah’s Mountain Crest on January 3rd.
Coach Shumway appreciates his player’s versatility on the court. “Coop on the court can help in all aspects of the game, he can stretch the floor, finish at the rim, and sees the court well. He has good size which makes it hard for teams to match up with him”. This makes him stand out tremendously as well as his hard work.
Lancaster has always stood out on the hardcourt, but being a good all-around player is a full time task. Cooper is an incredible teammate. He is amazing on and off the court. Aside from his skillset, he’s a great young man and teammate, and I am glad he is on our side!” said coach Shumway.
The Braves will need all Lancaster has to give along with senior leadership, help from his fellow juniors, and some brilliance from a few underclassmen if they want to qualify for the state tournament and make some waves there.
