On December 3-9, two Cheerleaders, Ryan Astle and Keidon Beasley, had the opportunity to go to Hawaii to be in the parade for the Pearl Harbor memorial. Along with Astle and Beasley, several others also qualified to make the trip to the island as all-american cheerleaders, although they did not go, including Jenna Suter, Sarah Bowers, Dallas Erickson, Kendyl Madsen, Harper Sessions, Kynzee Hurd, Rylynne Merritt, Vanna Bazil, and Cloe Jack.
During the summer the cheerleading team had college students come teach a stunt camp for a few days. During this time everyone had the opportunity to try out for all-american, which gives cheerleaders an opportunity to travel and cheer in different parts of the country. Several Braves cheerleaders tried out and made the all-american team, but onnly Aslt and Beasley snagged the trip.
To make all-american cheerleaders must personify team spirit and pride, be loud and repetitive, and easily help crowds to join in. All-american cheerleaders are known for their enthusiastic and vibrant performances. Their movements should be sharp and full of energy, from the stunts to the motions of the arms and legs. They also need to have good teamwork and the team needs to be synchronized in their stunts and motions. “I think that it’s so awesome that kids from our school can go and support something bigger than themselves,” said sophomore Piper Galvin.
The guys had to spend their time at home before the trip learning and perfecting the cheer routine for the parade. They also had to fundraise money from around the valley to pay for the trip. “Being selected as an all-american is a super cool honor and allowed me to go to the 83rd annual Pearl Harbor Day Parade. I was able to visit the memorials at Pearl Harbor and spend time there,” said Astle.
Beasley added, “I’m glad I went to support our amazing Navy and the ones that were lost in the Pearl Harbor attack.”
