Last year the Braves placed 5th as a team at the 4A state championships with three wrestlers, Kimball Parry, Tel Parry and Kooper Burk, winning individual state championships. A successful season by all accounts, but the Braves would like to do better this season.
Previously in 3A, the Braves won state as a team 7 years in a row. After moving up to 4A the competition go tougher, but head coach Eddy Clark is no stranger to winning against tough competition. During the 23-24 season, he crossed the 600 duel win threshold putting him in the top 20% of wrestling coaches the nation.
“It’s tougher. When you are in 4A it’s hard to be a state placer, but i’ts difficult to be a state champ in any class,” said Clark. He continued, “You have to have more depth and more talented kids. They [WHSAA] added four more really good schools,” making it more difficult to win.
Safe to say Coach Clark has a lot on his plate, but his goal to win a 4A state championship remains key. “We are young, so we have to get better at our skills and get better every week.” With a wrestling full of hardworking and talented kids, the Braves will make a solid run at their first 4A state team title.
