It is safe to say Cody High School is tired of meeting SVHS in the state title game.
The Braves are no strangers to playing in the state game against the Broncs. After 2 state titles in a row, the Braves took a 3rd after a 20-7 Star Valley state tournament win against Cody, going undefeated for the season. This was third year in a row SV defeated Cody in the state game.
Star wide receiver Bryson Nield suffered a collarbone fracture over the summer and made a quick recovery to get cleared right before the first game of the season. Nield has had his best year as a Brave but suffered a concussion scare and missed the second half against Riverton in the semi-final. Early on in the state game he injured his collarbone again but continued through to have a great game. “I wasn’t gonna let my collarbone get to me, and wanted to finish out the last game of my high school career,” said Nield.
Star lineman Cooper (Big Country) Lawson had his best season yet and has garnered offers from D1 schools. Although he kept from getting injured throughout the whole season, Lawson had an ankle injury toward the end of the state game. He came out, got wrapped up, and played the rest of the game. “My ankle was definitely hurting me, but it wasn’t enough to make me miss this game against Cody,” said Lawson.
As for next year, the future continues to look bright. The sophomore and junior grades have only lost one game each since since 7th grade with a few star players coming back with varsity experience. In other words, expect the Brave Dynasty to continue.
