Model UN takes time and effort, something students are not always willing to give at the end of a trimester, but on Nov 11-12 nine model students from SV took the time and made the effort.
Model UN goes beyond debate to solving problems and building consensus together. It is about diplomacy. Advisor Ms. Sharolyn Stauffer said, “I look forward to helping students prepare for this conference each year.”
Model UN is not run by the United Nations itself. Students participate around the world in similar ways to this conference, and it is also done in colleges and universities.
Student ambassadors are assigned to committees where they tackle research issues using the basics of parliamentary procedure.
Freshman participant Jayci Allred said, “It was a fun and and eye-opening experience. I recommend it anyone who wants to should join. It’s not really that hard.”
The event was hosted at Jackson Hole High School who brought in an inspiring keynote speaker with, according to Stauffer, “significant experience in global relations and/or advocacy.”
Model UN is an academic, diplomatic, educational event that nine Braves took the time to participate in. “I am always reminded how passionate young people can be about understanding and solving significant problems in the world, and they inspire me with the ways they practice diplomatic skills,” said Stauffer.
