The Riverton Wolverines came into the semi-final game as the underdogs, but at the start they didn’t look like it.
The Riverton Wolverines came out hot. The Braves marched it down to the 4 yard line and then got a few penalties that pushed them back. Riverton held them on fourth down, and the Braves turned the ball over. This gave the Wolverines a huge momentum boost to start their drive, but the Braves shut that down really fast, and momentum quickly shifted to the Braves.
The Wolverines were able to hold the #1 ranked Braves to a scoreless in the first quarter; in fact, both teams were scoreless going into the second quarter, thirsty to get points on the board.
That thirst was satisfied for SV when senior Grant Thomson lead the way with a 55 yard touchdown. That wasn’t the last of the Braves points that quarter. Bryson Nield also scored 2 touchdowns and broke the all time receiving record for Star Valley High School.
The Wolverines came out in the 2nd half sensing their season was about to come to an end. The Braves were fired up in the 2nd half and continued to dominate Riverton’s defense, scoring two more touchdowns and holding the Wolverines scoreless.
Sophomore Travis Thomson said, “The weather was a bit of a challenge, but we were able to fight through and dominate Riverton.” Maybe the weather was a struggle for the Wolverines, too.
Sophomore Krew Morgan stated, “They came out hot but we held our energy to shut their game down.” The energy was a big factor in this game considering the winner was headed to Laramie, Wyoming for the State Championship.
Senior Jayden Kunz said, “We just gave relentless effort and it paid off in the big win.” A win that would send the Braves to the state championship and keep their undefeated season rolling.
