On October 30, best-selling author Jennifer A. Nielsen visited the media center to share her experiences and insights with students, offering a unique look into the life of a writer.
Known for her popular young adult novels like The False Prince and Resistance, Nielsen captivated the audience of mostly English class students with stories from her career and encouraged students to embrace creativity and perseverance. Her visit, aimed at inspiring budding writers and promoting literacy, was met with enthusiasm and curiosity from students and staff alike.
Many students felt inspired by Nielsen’s words. “I didn’t know how much work she put into her books,” shared sophomore Marc Harris. “It makes me have a lot more appreciation for authors like Jennifer Nielsen.”
Visits like these take lots of work to pull off. “The district librarian Shelley Hunsaker is so amazing! She contacts the author and schedules them. We are so lucky that our school allows us to have the authors,” said school librarian Mrs. Suloff. She added, “I think it helps make book authors real. It is amazing to see how much work goes into their books.”
Author Brandon Mull visited the school last year.
