On October 16, 2021, our very own marching band and color guard traveled to Casper, Wyoming in hopes of ending their season with a win at the state competition. For the first time in SVHS history, our color guard won the highest score possible at state.

Winning this award is such a big accomplishment for these girls. Senior Jessica Clinger had an amazing time this year. “My favorite part this year was being able to be with my girls. And winning was amazing. I happy cried for the first time ever, so I’d say this season was a success,” said Clinger.

Along with Clinger, senior Raegan Schreiber really enjoyed the season. “I had so much fun. It was so exciting to win. We were all so proud of each other,” said Schreiber.

Band teacher Mr. Sand thinks that the color guard girls bring good things to the marching band. “Our color guard are the visual impact statement makers in our performance. They add the punch and expressive energy through their flag work, rifles, costumes and dance,” said Sand.

The highest rating a squad can earn at state is excellent. The color guard girls stayed after school and perfected their routines for months in preparation for the state completion. They worked so hard and came out with a victory and became theĀ  first color guard team in SVHS history to come with with an excellent score.
