COVID-19 has has created a massive pandemic that is rocking the world. Many people speculate that this pandemic has brought permanent changes for the future.

ABC news predicts some changes that COVID-19 will bring for the future include more online employment opportunities, more online options of doing things- such as online shopping, stricter travel restrictions, and more virtual schooling options.

According to ABC News, a study done by McKinsey and Company showed that more Americans expect to make their purchases online post-COVID-19 compared to pre-pandemic, with 30-49% of people expecting to increase their online grocery shopping. While COVID-19 may be gone in the future, the pandemic’s affects will  linger.

Some restrictions may stay in order to prevent another worldwide pandemic from happening in the future. Specifically, many people think that travel restrictions will stay. “I think maybe small restrictions [will stay],” said Max LaMunyon. Although many large restrictions will most likely disappear, small restrictions may be here to stay.

Increased mask use may be another beneficial change that has come with COVID-19. Masks prevent airborne germs from spreading and infecting others. According to the New England journal of Medicine, an experiment using high-speed video found that hundreds of droplets ranging from 20 to 500 micrometers were generated when saying a simple phrase, but that nearly all these droplets were blocked when the mouth was covered by a damp washcloth. University of California San Francisco found that people  wearing a surgical mask while sick with influenza or the common cold significantly reduced the amount of these respiratory viruses emitted in droplets and aerosols. “I think that masks are probably always going to be worn because of the imminent health risks [of not wearing them],” said Brandon Edwards.

Some covid changes will most likely disappear once the spread of the sickness is brought under control. For example, social distancing will probably not endure afterwards. This means that large audiences for sporting events will again be possible. “. I think that sporting events being opened up to the public will get back to normal,” said Edwards. Sport fans will once again enjoy watching a game in person and cheering for their favorite team.

Social distancing was a bummer for many people. Suddenly, close gatherings put many people at risk of getting COVID-19. However, in the future this could very well change,  “Staying six feet away will probably be gone,” hopes LaMunyon. Social distancing will not be needed once herd immunity takes effect as more people are vaccinated.

While COVID-19 may disappear, this pandemic has brought everlasting changes into the future. These changes will hopefully decrease the chances of something like this happening again.
