Unknown to many, there is a club with a record of success and is all together a lot of fun that rides under the radar of most students.

Skills USA is one of the successful clubs offered at the school. Recently, the current Skills USA team went to Casper to compete and represent at the state competition. The skills team placed first as a whole team and had many individual winners.

The competition began Monday, April 15th. The team began the day with organizing a meeting place since everyone would be going different places at different times. Then everyone was off to their events. Every contestant entered their competitions with a sense of confidence.

Senior Clare Doornbos snatched gold in the Culinary Arts event. ” I was very surprised when I won. For our competition they just showed us where the ingredients were and let us loose.”

Much like Doorknobs, many more placed highly in their events. The whole team shared the success of winning the 3A state title. Instructor Mrs. Taylor said, “I feel like we did well at the state competition. We won the 3A state title and we had some awesome individual winners.  The team left the competition with seven gold medals, four silver medals , and 4 bronze medals.

Uber nerd Tavan Southam Placed 3rd overall in the Job Skill Demo. For his job demo he demonstrated how to read books to children. “Skills is a great experience definitely would recommend,” said Southam.

Team leader Mason Stewart expressed his feelings towards the Skills USA program. He said, “Skills is an amazing experience for kids to off any variety of skills they may have.”

The Skills USA State Competition gave nerds a chance to proudly strut their stuff and show their talents and knowledge. Whether the competition was the quiz bowl, robotics, technical computer applications, or related technical math skills, this was the place for skilled students to shine.

 

 

TOP DOG: The Skills USA team ended up on top. Instrustor Balls stated, ” Skills was fantastic. It was one of our better years.”

 

SKILLED LEADERS: Mr. Mattson, Mr. Balls, Mrs. Taylor, and Mrs Heiner lead the skills team in Casper.
