On the weekend of January 24th – the 27th, all three classes of wrestlers converged to Riverton to participate in the annual Ron Thon Memorial Wrestling Tournament. Running for two decades now, it is the largest tournament in the state of Wyoming. Fourty-four teams this year entered at least one one wrestler to participate in the matches. It doesn’t matter what class the wrestler is from; all that matters is who does the best, and the best always rises to the top.

The Braves held their own, placing 4th overall.  Some team standouts included seniors Kyle Kunz, Koa Delong, junior Parker Merritt, sophomore Haze Child, and freshmen Jacob Guild, and Winston Green. They all ended the tournament 5th place or above and all scored in the double digits.  Green and Child claimed 5th while  Guild and Merritt placed 4th in their weight classes. Delong finished 3rd and Kunz captured 2nd place. The two seniors, Delong and Kunz, each scored the team over twenty points.

Ron Thon is the most challenging tournament the Braves will have this season. Coach Clark said, “Ron Thon is the tournament where you have all the schools serious about wrestling. You have the best teams from each class and the best individuals show up and that makes it tough.”

The Braves finished behind only the top three 4a schools and will continue to press forward each week as they get closer and closer to regionals and then the state championship.
