This summer 3 of our very own students, sophomore Duncan Elder and seniors Lyndsie Ludwig and Brendan Buehler, will attend Open Jar Institute in New York City for a week. Open Jar is a program that specializes in training Broadway’s next generation of high school and college students.

Only 60 high school students worldwide are specially selected to work with professional Broadway actors, directors, and producers. For the week that the students are there, they will also attend acting, voice, and dance clinics to improve their already exceptional skills.

The craziest part is that only 60 students from around the globe get to participate in this world renowned program, and 3 of them come from little old Star Valley, Wyoming. Ludwig and Elder talk about what they are most excited for and what they expect to learn about!

PROVINCIAL LIFE: Lyndsie Ludwig gives life to a Russian peasant in the type of performance that earned her a trip to New York City.

What are you most excited for?

The dance workshops! Because I love dance, and I am so excited to be trained by professional choreographers and dancers who choreograph and perform for Broadway.

What do you hope to learn the most?

A lot of vocal training. That’s what I want to improve on the most, so I think it’ll be the most beneficial for me.

TAILOR MADE: Duncan Elder gives voice to his character in Fiddler on the Roof, Motel Kamzoil.

What are you most excited for?

It’s gonna be cool to talk to the people who have actually made it & have so much to share about their personal performing experiences. Just the experience to be with Broadway professionals will be beyond amazing. Aside from the workshops, I’m also excited to watch some live Broadway shows and to get to see New York.

What do you hope to learn the most?

How to be a better actor in general. The dance classes make me a little nervous, but I think I’ll learn a ton!
