It simply starts off with looking at a few things you desire and personally like. Suddenly, you look around and find yourself surrounded by all sorts of magnificent things that interest you. Next comes the inevitable question every collector asks themselves, “Where did all this stuff come from?”

To be a collector, obviously, means to collect certain items that you genuinely find interest in. The next question you might want to ask is,  “What drives these type of people to collect things?” It might be considered madness for someone to have such interest in a certain topic, whether it be postal stamps, oil cans, sweaters, mirrors, or even pictures. If you think about it, collections can vary anywhere from comic book collections to pennies or snow globes.

For some, like the sport fans out there who love to collect jerseys and such, collecting is the best way to express loyalty for a team; for others, who collect bottle caps and postal stamps, there attention to detail reflect their personalites. Where did collecting start? There are primarily five players that keep the art world moving. The artist, the collector, the dealer, the curator, and the critic. The artist first has to create something, from there comes in the dealer who gets buyers and public announcements ready to go. The curator let’s the buyers know more about the art piece, the critic reviews the art, critiquing and showing it in magazines, etc.

Finally, collectors do many things in the art world and even outside of it. They provide the money that drives the art to go big; without them the artists would drown in low income and find no audience for their work.

Q: What do you collect?

A: Everything pertaining Daredevil!

Q: Why did you chose to collect that certain thing?

A: Well, I have the same initials as Daredevil [DD] and I am kind of a nerd if you have not noticed. I love the color red and I can call it my brand because it is me and obviously because we have the same initials!

Phoenix Powell

Q: What do you collect?

A: Bobbleheads!

Q: Why did you chose to collect that certain thing?

A: They relate to almost everything. There are ones for video games, marvel, and basically everything that I like!

Don’t put off starting a collection of your own. You may learn more about yourself and help a struggling artist at the same time.
