“I have been on a motorcycle since I was four years old. One of the reasons I got into it so quickly was because my dad raced snowmobiles and motorcycles. Racing just seems like a way of life to me. It is such an adrenaline rush for me.”

You may have seen him the halls or maybe on Fox Sports or ESPN. He’s a sophomore at SVHS, but he’s also a nationally competitive motocross racer who travels the country to race.

“I attend around 5 amateur national events in a year, all over the country. This biggest one I attend is Loretta Lynn’s in Tennessee. For this race you have to qualify, first in area and then in your region. Only 42 riders will qualify, from a total of 300-400 riders. My best finish at Loretta was 3rd,” says Preston Kilroy.

When not riding his bike, Kilroy takes time to play golf on the school team. Like PGA tour pro Ricky Fowler, Kilroy is growing up riding bikes and hitting the links. Golf coach Kelly Fullmer said, “Preston is a good golfer who finds the time to help us out while competing in his main sport that takes much of his time. I’m trying to get him to play more golf!”

“Racing just seems like a way of life to me.”

“My biggest race this year was Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas, NV. The race was televised. I rode in the supermini class; for this class they only invite 22 amateur riders.”

Kilroy led the Monster Energy Cup final for a number of laps before a wipe out took him out of contention. You can see pictures of this race as captured from Mr. Fullmer’s TV during the race.

“I got the hole in the first Moto and finished 3rd. I was leading the 2nd Moto but crashed in the rhythm section which caused my bars to bend… I was unable to finish the race. I finished this 10th overall.”

To balance the demands of school and travel in order to compete, Kilroy has taken online classes in order to stay caught up. Next time you see this quiet, unassuming sophomore walking the halls, picture him on a dirt bike, flying through the air, and you’ll get a better idea of who he is.
