Star Valley Wyoming is located in the mountains on the western edge of Wyoming. It consists of 12 small towns, all based within a 45 mile long valley. The main towns include Alpine, Thayne, Star Valley Ranch, and Afton. Other smaller communities such as Etna, Freedom, Smoot, Grover, Fairview, Osmond, Auburn, Bedford and Turnerville also make up parts of Star Valley.

Despite the different towns, we consider ourselves as one whole community. Valley residents split their home into the upper and lower Valleys with the Narrows just north Grover and South of Thayne separating the two. We have one high school and one middle school, both in Afton, with elementary schools in both the lower and upper valley.  Surrounded by the Bridger Teton, Caribou, and Targhee National forests, the area features incredible scenery that most people would give anything to be able to see on a daily basis. Altitudes normally range from 5,600 to 7,000 feet. We’re high!

In the  late 1870’s, hardy Mormon pioneers came along and proclaimed this place as the “Star of all Valleys” for its natural beauty. Star valley lives up to its name with pure, star-studded night skies where the Northern lights can occasionally be seen.

The best part about living in my hometown is…..

Bryant Erickson- The small community that we have and the way you can make friends with almost anyone. One thing I would miss is the overall family feeling and acceptance that the valley brings to everyone.

Graci Brown- THAT WE HAVE A FREAKIN’ BK! I would miss really nothing about Star Valley.

Reese Fullmer- The fact that it IS star valley! I love the beauty that is around us constantly and the quiet way of life we have here. I can’t imagine having to grow up anywhere else.

Kaylee Burgess- I love the scenery that we get to see everyday that most people would kill to see! I wouldn’t miss anything but I do know that I would NOT miss the harsh winters!
