On Tuesday, September 12th, we got a visit from Terry Vaughan. Vaughan is an educational speaker and travels the nation educating all types of people about being aware body language. Through mental and psychical education, Vaughan showed SVHS students how to prepare themselves for any kind of an attack. Vaughan, a former British Royal Marine Commando—a prime part of the Queen’s navy, was a competitor on season four of Top Shot. Vaughan is also a former host for GunTV.

Students shared how they felt about the assembly.

Name: Nick Lynch

Did you like the assembly? “Yes, I thought it was interesting.”

Did you think it was necessary? “I don’t know, I think later in life it would be helpful but not for Afton.”

Has it changed the way you pay attention to your surroundings? “Drastically? No, but I’ve noticed smaller things I didn’t before.”

Name: Alex Fluckinger

Did you like the assembly? “Yeah, it was pretty funny honestly; that guy was lit.”

Did you think it was necessary? “Yeah, it’s good stuff honestly.”

Has it changed the way you pay attention to your surrounding? “No.”

After the assembly Vaughan shared,”Do not be paranoid, be vigilant. Practice consistent vigilance for 30 days. This time frame will be somewhat fatiguing at first, but by the conclusion, you will have formed good scanning and awareness habits, and your brain will begin to do it automatically. ” So don’t forget to be safe and keep a wary eye out for creepers and possible threats.

Of course this was a necessary assembly. On Thursday Natalie Dice punched Paul and he hit her back and gave her a fat lip. Yet she’s the only one sitting in ISS while Paul walks around like nothing has affected him. It’s takes two to tango. So why are we only punishing the girl?
