As some of you may know, changes are coming to the wood shop this fall. A new, old teacher, Mr. Mattson who currently teaches in the social studies department, will take over for Mr. Balls.

That’s right, the economics guru in our school will be in charge of all woods-type classes. He does have experience in construction and has extensive knowledge in building, so while laying out a stud wall he can give you a history lesson on the timber industry in America or the economic ramifications of clear cutting.

Mr. Mattson– ” I am very excited and believe very strongly in vocational jobs and trades. I’m excited to run the program as a professional shop and build a tiered program for students to prepare for high-paying trade jobs. My plan is to get the program nationally certified. That way you can have your card and be nationally recognized as certified when you complete the course. It will be a fun class, but not a goof off class, and we will work on building projects, each getting more complex as you pass each tier of the class. It will be course that teaches a skill that can turn into a high-paying job for students.
